Raya Surinx, the nation’s leading attacker, has earned national recognition this week. The second-year left side recorded 35 kills over two games against UBCO, both wins for the 10-2, No. 8 nationally ranked Bisons.
Surinx hit a career-best .613 on Saturday, and also set a new three-set career best with 21 kills. Her first error didn’t occur until the third set, and she hit above .300 in both contests. Her 21 kills were also the fifth-most ever in the three-set CanWest regular season game.
Entering the winter break, Surinx leads the country in total attacks (448), as well as kills per set (4.94), and kills (196). Her kills total is over 30 better than anyone else in the nation.
This year, the sophomore is averaging 5.73 points per set, showcasing her versatility with 62 digs and 16 service aces. She’s hit above .300 in each of her last three games, including against UBCO, where she had just seven errors on 60 total attacks.
