For the second time in the last three weeks, second-year left side Raya Surinx has been named Canada West Women’s Volleyball Athlete of the Week.
Last year’s national Rookie of the Year contributed 35 kills over two games, both 3-0 sweeps of UBCO. The two wins improved No. 8 nationally ranked Manitoba’s record to 10-2 entering the winter break, and they are undefeated since October 28.
On Friday, Surinx posted 14 kills, hitting .310 with just five errors on 29 attacks. She followed that up on Saturday with a three-set career high of 21 kills, just five short of her all-time best.
Surinx hit a career-best .613 in the Saturday win, recording just two errors on 31 attacks. She also added two aces, two assists and seven digs.
Surinx leads the nation in kills, with 195 and kills per set, with 4.76. She’s also second in the nation in errors, committing just 85, while her 432 total attacks also rank first in the country.
