HAMILTON (U SPORTS) – Guillaume Bisson, a third-year outside hitter, registered 18 kills to help the Carabins advance to the consolation final. Montréal downed the Saskatchewan Huskies in a five-set thriller (25-15, 20-25, 19-25, 27-25, 15-8) in the second consolation semifinal at the 2023 U SPORTS Men’s Volleyball Championship, presented by Mikasa, at Burridge Gymnasium.
The Carabins cruised to a ten-point victory in Set #1, but the Huskies responded in Set #2. Saskatchewan again performed to go up 2-1. The Carabins took the tightly-contested fourth set by a 27-25 scoreline. The Carabins continued to gain momentum and sealed the victory with a strong 15-8 fifth set.
Julien Boileau combined with Bisson was a strong combination for the Carabins. Boileau tallied 14 kills and added 11 digs to help secure the win for Montréal. Despite the loss, Saskatchewan had four players who recorded double-digit digs, led by Dylan Mortensen with 17.
Montréal recorded a .288 hitting percentage, while Saskatchewan posted a percentage of .233.
The victory sends the Carabins to the consolation final on Sunday, March 19th at 1 p.m. ET where they will face the Toronto Varsity Blues. The loss brings the Huskies’ national championship to an end.
