Men’s volleyball add Dunn to recruiting class

TORONTO – The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men’s volleyball program is pleased to announce that setter Declan Dunn has committed for the 2023-24 season. Dunn is the second player in this year’s recruiting class.  

“Declan is one of the hardest working, most motivated club players I have ever come across and TMU is lucky to add him to the program,” said associate coach and recruiting coordinator, Niko Rukavina. 

The Whitby, Ont., product enters his first season with the Bold after playing club volleyball with the Durham Attack for five seasons. Dunn’s other experiences include being on Team Ontario’s 2022 indoor volleyball team and being the team captain and Most Valuable Player of his high school volleyball team — the Donald A. Wilson Gators.

“[I’m] a driven competitor who will put in whatever work is needed to succeed,” said Dunn. 

The setter was also the team captain and an Award of Excellence recipient in his time with the Attack.  His athletic inspirations include Kobe Bryant and TJ Sanders. 

“It was the bond that coach Niko creates with his players,” said Dunn on his choice to attend TMU in the fall. “Creating a comfortable coach-player relationship, while maintaining that level of respect for a coach is something I have always looked for.”

Dunn will be majoring in psychology and believes that TMU can open possibilities for him in the future if he were to pursue a graduate degree. Throughout his time in high school, he was also an honour roll student. 

“I chose TMU because of the university being recognized as a leader in research,” added Dunn.  

The newcomer is excited and eager to join TMU for the upcoming season as the volleyball program looks to further bolster its squad depth heading into September.

“Nothing can top signing my letter of intent with the Bold,” said Dunn.
