KINGSTON, Ont. (Feb. 9, 2024) – Queen’s Men’s Volleyball secured a massive win over the first place Guelph Gryphons, 3-1 (13-25, 25-19, 25-23, 25-23) Friday night at the Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC).
After dropping the first set by 12 points, the Gaels came back to even the score 1-1 with a comfortable second set win. The third and fourth sets were both very tight, with Queen’s edging the Gryphons by just two points in each set to secure the 3-1 win.
With the victory, the Gaels improved their record to 13-4 while dropping Guelph’s record to 13-4 in the process. Queen’s now sits tied for second in the OUA standings, behind only the McMaster Marauders (14-4), who have played one more game.
Zig Licis (Louisville, CO) led Queen’s offensively, with a game-high 14 kills, while Reed Venning (Courtice, Ont.) added 10 and Erik Siksna (Markham, Ont.) had eight.
Licis also tied for the team lead in blocks with three.
Chris Zimmerman (Prince George, B.C.) finished with 36 assists and seven digs in the win.
Queen’s and Guelph will close out their weekend doubleheader Saturday at 8 p.m. at the ARC.
