Cougars sign Lanigan libero Reese Stroeder

University of Regina women’s volleyball head coach Prateek Yadav announced Thursday that libero Reese Stroeder (Lanigan, Sask.) has committed to the Cougars for the 2025-26 season.

“Reese’s addition to our program will bring much-needed stability to the libero position as we work to strengthen our lineup,” Yadav said. “A high-performance student-athlete with invaluable experience competing at the highest level of youth volleyball, Reese will be an asset in advancing our program’s ongoing rebuild.”

Stroeder has helped lead the Lanigan Central High School Lazers to 3A provincial titles in 2022, 2023, and 2024. Her coaches at Lanigan Central have deep ties to the Cougar program, as head coach Haley Wagar played at the U of R from 2015 to 2019 and assistant coach Barb Klapak is the mother of current U of R setter Cassadi Klapak.

A product of the Saskatoon-based Huskie Volleyball Club, Stroeder won a provincial championship with HVC’s 18U Premier squad and then went on to a fifth-place finish at Volleyball Canada’s 2024 Youth Nationals in Edmonton.

At the provincial level, Stroeder has spent the previous four summers with Team Saskatchewan and capped her time with the program by winning a bronze medal with the Green Selects at the 2024 Canada Cup held at Tsuut’ina Nation near Calgary. Stroeder was named the recipient of the Green Selects’ Maple Award at that tournament, given to a player on each team who best embodies the spirit of the sport and displays support and consideration for their teammates as well as opponents.

Stroeder is the first member of the Cougars’ recruiting class for next season.

NOTES: Stroeder will be the third player from Lanigan to play for the Cougars since they joined Canada West prior to the 2001-02 season … the other two are Kirstin Greve (2016-20) and Cassadi Klapak (2021-present).
