Sophie Bukovec and Brandie Wilkerson announced today via Instagram that they are teaming up to compete on the International circuit this summer. The two have recently been training in Canada and have just arrived in Brazil for training. They look forward to hitting the ground running. It’s a partnership of real athleticism and a very high energy pair with their eyes set on Paris 2024.
Bukovec writes “I can’t even put into words (though I’ll try) how excited I am to be sharing the court with OLYMPIAN @bvuilleumier. Not only is she an absolute athletic ANOMALY… which is an obvious God given gift but let me go ahead and list the reasons why there was no second thought when she asked me to play. I’ll go ahead and start.
She immediately catches EVERYONE’S eye 👀 for so many reasons… her court presence, her skill, her attitude, her swag, her passion, her creativity, her personality, her compassion, her fierceness, her unwavering competitiveness and so many more. I’ll let this season showcase the rest 😉
The last few years I have seen all of the amazing things she has done for volleyball in Canada & internationally. Breaking barriers & creating new standards daily. This is Canadian volleyball LEGACY… ROYALTY #thisishowlegendsaremade
I’m just so honoured 🥺 to play a part in her story while creating our story
The past few years I have dedicated so much of myself to be best prepared for this exact moment. I purposely started training as a defender for the moment BRANDIE calls… and here we are ✨I am so grateful to have the opportunity to share the court with her during this next chapter 📖”
Wilkerson writes “OKAAAY it’s about to be on this season!!! I’m SO honoured and inspired to be partnering up with the insanely talented Sophie Bukovec @sophiebukovec 😍
I can’t fully express in words how this opportunity has shifted me to a deeper level of drive, inspiration, purpose, and confidence. Sophie is a shining example of what dedication means and I am a willing student 💯
Outside of being an all around badass with the biggest heart 💗 Sophie has been a successful Team Canada athlete for years, not only bringing Canada its first beach volleyball gold medal ever at the 2014 U21 World Champs 🇨🇦 but continuously improving her game making her an unstoppable force. And she makes it look EASY — taking on a new position with ease, succeeding with class, and inspiring me on a daily basis. I’m so lucky to be working next to this woman.”
Emily Cordonier will have a Momentum Exclusive full interview this week with the two to discuss their new partnership.
