Youth Level Options
VolleyPlus programs are for youth looking to get active for a fun camp, and learn volleyball along with other new games and activities. For early grade elementary school campers, our VolleyPlus programs are a great option for young athletes that like to play!
Athlete Development is for athletes developing their skills in volleyball, who are interested in getting better and learning how to play the game. Coaches are experienced in training athletes to get better, and help athletes develop both on and off the court. This level is a great fit for an elementary school-age athlete who is enjoying volleyball, and looking for more of the sport outside of school!
Competitive Training is for athletes eager to have successful tryouts & successful volleyball seasons. These athletes have usually selected volleyball as their primary sport. Coaches include collegiate & professional athletes, and work with the youth athletes to take their next step in competitive volleyball!
High Performance is intended for competitive players only, who are committing to volleyball as their main sport; competitive club experience and active participation in competitive beach volleyball tournaments is very strongly recommended! Each program includes skill development, gameplay and athlete development sessions.

Adult Level Options
Beginner/Recreational Leagues are for players who are new to volleyball and are learning the basic foundations of the sport. Momentum’s Beginner/Recreational leagues are a great introduction into the sport and a great way for players to meet each other and enjoy the game!
Intermediate Leagues are for teams that are consistently playing 3 contacts, setting attackers to spike on third contact and with an understanding of rotations and positions. Early Intermediate teams are on the path to move up to the next level of league with some improvement.
Intermediate Plus Leagues are for teams running a 2-setter or 1-setter system, often with specialized positions and with 2-3 consistent attacking options. Teams are capable of attacking from the front or back row, and consistently able to spike on a downwards trajectory.
Advanced Leagues are for teams running a 5:1 system with proficiency, with all players having experience playing in Advanced leagues or at a comparable level.
Competitive Leagues are for teams and athletes with substantial playing experience at a highly-competitive school, club, or league level. Teams are proficient at attacking from the front & back row, running fast-tempo setting speed to attackers, and receiving serves in a 3-passer system.
Scoring & Schedules
- Teams receive 1 point for each set won in the regular season; Teams are guaranteed to play two 2-set Matches each night. Starting times may vary
- Scores & Schedules will be updated within a few days of your league’s matches, and the next week’s schedule will be posted on this page
- Tie-breaks will be determined by Points For/Points Against differential
- Any scoring discrepancies can be addressed by contacting adult@momentumvolleyball.ca
- Games are played to a hard cap at 25 points. This means there’s NO ‘Win by 2’ rules, meaning that if the score is 24-24, the next point wins the set.
League General Details
- If a league is not ‘full’ at the start of the season, Momentum will seek to add teams in the later weeks of the season. During this time, teams will be able to play additional matches during their night!
- There are no referees, and teams call their own fouls. In/out calls should be made on your own team’s side FIRST, however, if there is a disputed point that cannot be resolved by BOTH TEAMS, the point will be re-served.
- Teams must submit a roster of at least 6 players in order to register. Teams must keep their roster size under 10 players, and if you have more than 8 players attending consistently, we encourage you to consider splitting into two teams if the space is available in the league!
- Co-Ed leagues must maintain a 4:2 gender ratio on the court for your team at any time for Co-Ed leagues
- If a team has only 5 players at the start of the game, they can still play but will leave one position open and lose a point & their serve every time that zone rotates to serve.
- If a team cannot field the minimum 5 eligible players at the start of the game, they will be given a 5-minute grace period for their teammates to arrive and start the first set 0-10. If after 10 minutes a team cannot field 5 eligible players, the team will forfeit the set.
- Uniforms or matching shirts are not mandatory, but encouraged!
- While this is an ADULT league, occasionally a talented youth player may wish to join a team. If so, the minimum age for any participant is 15 years old
- Washrooms are available, but there are no official dressing rooms or showers
Equipment
- Standard net heights will be used for each league based: Men’s: 2.43m; Women’s: 2.24m; Co-Ed: 2.34m
- The Molten or Wilson indoor volleyball will be used. League balls are provided by Momentum
General League Volleyball Rules
- Hand-passing/volleying the serve is allowed
- For back-row players, you must jump behind the Attack Line if you are spiking above the height of the net
- ALL net touches are a violation, and a point is awarded to the other team
- If any part of your body touches or crosses the centre line, it is a violation and loss of serve
- Teams must follow a standard rotation (clockwise) and if a team is rotating in a player, they must enter the court in Zone 6 (middle-back)
- Any part of the body can be used to play the ball
- There is no Libero position allowed
- Blocks do NOT count as a ‘touch’ in indoor volleyball, so teams have 3 contacts to play the ball after the block
- Stepping on or over the service line is a fault, and both feet must be behind the service line when you serve. On a jump serve, a player is allowed to jump from behind the service line, and land in front of it; at The York School, we do not call end line violations unless both feet are over the end line
First League Night Details
- Arrive at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start of your league with your full roster. Ball warmup can only be done on the court (not in hallways!) and will start at the beginning time of your league. If you would like more than the few minutes to warm up your body, we strongly encourage you to arrive earlier!
- League schedules can be found on this page under your league’s dropdown menu. They will be updated within a few days of your last league night.
- Jerseys or matching uniforms are not required, but always encouraged
- We will be taking pictures at our league nights and sharing them on our Momentum social media! Find us at @momentumvball_programs on Instagram!
