#2 MARAUDERS HANDLE BUSINESS IN SWEEP OF WARRIORS

HAMILTON, Ont. – The McMaster Marauders men’s volleyball team continued their impressive streak, sweeping the Waterloo Warriors on Nov. 27.

The 3-0 match was hosted by the #2 nationally ranked Marauders in the Burridge Gymnasium, their second home game of the season. The Marauders dominated their opponent at the net both offensively and defensively early and often.

McMaster came out strong in the first, laying a precedent for the games to come. McMaster didn’t allow Waterloo any momentum and avoided Warrior runs of more than a point, and the Marauders easily took the set 25-12.

In an even lower scoring second set for Waterloo, the Marauders took an efficient 25-10 victory, leaving them just one set away from securing the match. McMaster would go on to take the third and final set by a score of 25-17.

A trio of Maxime Gratton, Sam Cooper and Mateusz Wlodarski put on an offensive clinic in McMaster’s win, earning a game-high seven kills a piece. McMaster’s elite serving was on full display as the team combined for 14 aces, the most by any OUA team in a game this season, despite only going three sets. Cooper added five more to bring his total to 18 for the season, good for second in the league behind Nipissing’s Jackson Young.

Once again the league-best maroon wall held strong as McMaster’s 6’10 middle Wojtek Kraj and the 6’8 Wlodarski each had six blocks in the match.

Starting setter Robbie Fujisawa’s power and accuracy helped his team to victory again, alongside team captain and libero Jordan Pereira, who chipped in with five assists and eight digs.

The Marauders remain unbeaten on the year and have now posted three straight shutouts heading into the break.

McMaster will return to action January 6 and 7 when they host two-time NCAA National Champions Long Beach State University in a pair of highly anticipated exhibition matches. Tickets are on sale now at marauders.ca/tickets.
