Women’s and men’s U23 teams reach podium

Canadians Ruby Sorra and Emma Glagau bring home silver from the first-ever NORCECA U23 Beach Volleyball Tour event in Cayman Islands.

Ontario athletes Glagau and Sorra, who captured bronze at the FIVB Beach Volleyball U19 World Championship in September, were defeated in a tie-break by Ella Connor and Piper Ferch of the United States 2-1 (18-21, 21-11, 22-20) on Sunday.

The Canadian women’s pair reached the gold-medal match winning their semi-final over Britney Choon and Tsyan Selvon of Trinidad and Tobago 2-0 (21-9, 21-11).

Canada also took silver on the men’s side as USA’s Thomas Hurst and Gage Basey won gold over Trent Ketrzynski and Rouzbeh Rahnavard of Canada 2-1 (23-21, 17-21, 15-11).

On the way to reaching the final, Ketrzynski/Rahnavard, both of Ontario, battled to overcome Eddy Toro and Joshua Winklaar of Aruba in semifinals 2-0 (24-22, 22-21). In the quarterfinals, the Canadian duo won 2-0 (21-10, 21-15) over Joshua Persaud and Nicholas Williams of Trinidad and Tobago.

Beach Volleyball: Next Gen Selection

Registration is open for the Next Gen Beach National Team Selection Camp (December 2 to 4, 2022) in Toronto, which will determine the athletes that earn Next Gen Carding.

These athletes will train full-time (12 months) at the Volleyball Canada Beach High Performance Centre. Selected athletes begin full-time training in January 2023. To be eligible to attend the Next Gen Beach National Team Selection Camp to earn 2023 Next Gen Carding, an athlete must have participated in 2022 Beach Nationals.
