Warriors sweep Excalibur in final road trip of season to extend win streak to 8

Women’s volleyball continued their torrid pace on the season with two more weekend victories, making it eight straight wins for the black and gold. Waterloo took out the Trent Excalibur in straight sets on Saturday and Sunday in Peterborough to improve to 14-2 on the season which is good for top spot in the OUA.

On Saturday’s 3-0 (25-12, 25-13, 25-18) over Trent, Sarah Glynn (Fredericton, NB) led the way with 8.5 points on eight kills and one block while Karen Fan (Oakville, ON/) and Grace Crooks (Ottawa, ON/) each had 7.5 points in the victory with Crooks leading the way at the net with four blocks. Claire Gagne (Cambridge, ON/) and Sarah Hewer (Whitby, ON/) shared setting duties, combining for 22 assists. Defensively Alex Sinik (Calgary, AB/) was strong with six digs while Fan had five.

Waterloo continued their strong play into Sunday with another straight set victory (25-16, 25-16, 25-14) over Trent. Fan led Waterloo’s attack with 11.5 points on nine kills, two aces and two blocks while Jennifer Zhu (Oakville, ON/) was next best with 9.5 points. Gagne had a strong match with 14 assists and an outstanding six service aces. Hewer was also on point with her setup, finishing with 13 assists in Waterloo’s eighth straight win.

The Warriors will now return home for four straight home matches to close out the regular season, starting with a battle for first place in the OUA on Saturday at 6pm against Brock. Catch the action live on OUA.tv.
