SPARTANS ANNOUNCE SIGNING OF JOHN OBI

John

COACH ADAM SCHRIEMER

“We are so excited about John’s committment to our program. John comes to us from a great volleyball city in Winnipeg, where he has had great coaches in both high school and club. John is an incredible athlete who plays the game well above the height of the net. His athleticism and physicality makes for very entertaining volleyball. What gets lost in John’s physicality is his mind for the game. John can process the game very quickly and he has a very high volleyball IQ. I have had the privilege of coaching John in the past and it has been an absolute pleasure. I can’t wait to work with John during his time at TWU. We are very excited to have John join our team this fall.”

JOHN OBI

“My goal has always been to attend TWU. Every year, I’ve dreamed of being a member of the Spartans after watching them play. TWU was my first choice because of the fantastic program and atmosphere that the coaching staff has created. I’m excited to compete and play at a higher level than I’ve experienced in club volleyball. I’m looking forward to learning and improving my volleyball talents at TWU.”

Evan

COACH ADAM SCHRIEMER

“We are very excited about Evan’s commitment. Evan is a great player and an even better person. Evan grew up in a Christian community and he checks all the boxes when it comes to the type of person we want to join our program. Evan is the type of guy who makes those around him better, on and off the court. He pushes his teammates to be better and because of that, we cannot be more excited for Evan to join our team. At 6-foot-8, Evan’s size and physicality allows him to play well above the height of the net. It is always exciting when someone as big and physical as Evan comes around. We are thrilled for what the future holds with Evan and we can’t wait for him to get in our gym and start working together.”

EVAN BOWMAN

“I chose Trinity Western because of the Christian environment it provides. Combined with the high level volleyball program, it’s a great match for me. It has been my dream to play with this team for years. I am looking forward to being coached by amazing coaches and being challenged, while growing as a player and a Christian.”

kaden

COACH BEN JOSEPHSON

“We are so excited about Kaden’s commitment to our program. Kaden comes to us with an incredible background of training both indoor and on the sand. Being part of the legendary Pakmen Volleyball Club, we know that he’s competed with the best players in his region and, arguably, in the country. That club is perennially one of the top ranked clubs in Canada and his group has been incredibly successful his whole career. Those kinds of experiences in his club and then to be competing at the highest levels on the beach as well – those experiences are tremendous for him as a player. His character is off the charts. He’s a joy to be with and to talk with. He’s such a hard worker and he has great dreams. We’re really excited be a part of his journey chasing those dreams, both indoor and on the sand.”

KADEN SCHMIDT

“I picked TWU for the phenomenal culture and program that Ben has crafted over the years. I’m excited to grow as a person, player and a Christian, surrounded by this team and knowing that they will definitely challenge me from every angle.”

kyden

COACH BEN JOSEPHSON

“We are so excited to receive Kyden’s commitment. Kyden is a unique blend of length and skill. Not a lot of guys his size have that level of skill. He comes from a volleyball family and we love those kids who have grown up playing the game with their folks and their siblings. He’s become an incredibly skilled player. At 6-foot-6, he has the length to be a world-class outside player. His combination of length and skill reminds us a lot of players like Jesse Elser or Mark Howatson and those guys have been legends for our program. We believe Kyden is cut from that same cloth. We can’t wait to get to work with him and see what makes him unique. He’s going to have a great career and we’re so excited that he chose to spend his university career with us.”

KYDEN DMITRUK

“TWU is exactly what I am looking for. It is a high level university with a close-knit Christian community and an amazing volleyball program. I’m looking forward to learning from great coaches and playing with great athletes in a game that I love. It is an amazing opportunity for me to play at an elite level, continue in my education and grow in my relationship with Christ.”
