Nationally ranked Badgers win fourth straight

ST CATHARINES – Ranked No. 3 in the country, the Brock Badgers women’s volleyball team defeated the McMaster Marauders 3-1 to claim their fourth consecutive victory to begin the 2022-23 campaign. Set scores in the Sunday afternoon match were 25-19, 20-25, 25-16, 25-10.
 
Following a competitive opening two sets which saw the Badgers and Marauders all square 1-1, Brock began to string together long service runs resulting in efficient scoring sets in the third and fourth set victories. Capping off the match, third-year outside hitter Meera Sayal nailed back-to-back service aces to secure the fourth win of the season for the Badgers.
 

 
A dynamic performance on the outside, second-year standout Madison Chimienti led all Badgers with a game-high 19 points from 17 kills, one service ace, and one block. Opposite of her, fellow sophomore outside hitter Sadie Dick powered her way to 15 points with 12 kills, one solo block, and four block assists. Also reaching double-digit points in the win, second-year left side Laurin Ainsworth added eight kills, two service aces, and one block assist for 10.5 points.
 
Defensively, Brock libero Aleiah Torres once again shined as a defensive specialist recording a game-high 15 digs, while also chipping in with seven assists. Both Chimienti and Badgers setter Sara Rohr reached double-digit digs as well, finishing with 11 and 10 respectively. Rohr guided the Badgers offence through all four sets tallying 36 assists.
 
Sullie Sundara was the standout performer for the Marauders finishing with a team-high 17 points from 13 kills, two aces, one block, and two block assists. McMaster libero Hayley Brookes registered 11 digs, while setter Christina Stratford recorded 23 assists.
 
The No. 3 Badgers will look to continue enjoying home court advantage next welcoming the Windsor Lancers for a pair of home games at Bob Davis Gymnasium on Friday, No. 25 and Saturday, Nov. 26. First serve on Friday is at 6 p.m., followed by a 4 p.m. start on Saturday. Tickets for both matches are available for purchase at brocku.universitytickets.com, with the games also streamed on OUA.TV.
