MCAC Volleyball Approved to Compete at CCAA Volleyball Nationals

The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association unanimously voted in favour of the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference champion competing in the CCAA soccer and volleyball national championships at their annual general meeting last week.

MCAC volleyball coaches Cody Quiring and Jayme Menzies from Providence University College and Canadian Mennonite University respectively were asked how this news impacts MCAC’s men’s and women’s volleyball.

Providence Pilots Men’s Volleyball head coach Cody Quiring believes Providence has been ready for the opportunity for quite some time. “We have been working for a number of years on creating high-level CCAA calibre season plans and we have a number of exciting things in the pipeline to continue climbing the levels” says Quiring. “Our student-athletes come from across Canada to compete in the MCAC and so we are thrilled to be able to pursue another championship beyond just our MCAC conference championship.”

CMU Blazers Women’s Volleyball head coach Jayme Menzies is excited for the opportunity this gives MCAC volleyball athletes. “The MCAC has a pool of very talented athletes who have chosen the college track for a variety of their own reasons. Joining the CCAA will give national credibility to their skill and reward their hard work.” Menzies believe that the opportunity to compete for a CCAA National Volleyball title will positively affect local Manitoban volleyball players and their outlook on the MCAC, adding that “Manitoba’s incredible high school volleyball programming” will continue to bolster the talent across MCAC volleyball programs.

Both Menzies and Quiring believe that MCAC volleyball programs will open some eyes across Canada, with expectations to see a Manitoba College Athletic Conference volleyball team being crowned the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association’s Volleyball National Champions within a few short years.
