Lions outlast Badgers in marathon 34-32 fifth set

ST. CATHARINES – The Brock men’s volleyball team lost a marathon fifth set with the visiting York Lions in Ontario University Athletics (OUA) regular season play at Bob Davis Gymnasium on Saturday, Jan. 28.

The Badgers lost 3-2 (25-22, 19-25, 25-22, 18-25, 32-34) in extra sets to the Lions for the second consecutive evening.

Third-year setter Grant Reddon posted a career-high 57 assists and second-year middle Jacob Ferland registered a career-high 10 blocks. Reddon added nine digs and Ferland contributed 10 kills.

Second-year outside hitter Kylar Code collected 20 kills for his third 20-plus kill performance of the season. Code hit for .302 on 43 swings and seven errors, and three aces.

Devin Cooney, a first-year outside hitter, racked up 16 kills for the second straight game.

For York, Andrew Tauhid led his team with 20 kills and 12 digs.

Brock captured the first set with a game-high .455 hitting percentage before York snagged the second. The fifth and final set featured Brock and York trading points until Dennis Cota of the Lions broke a 32-32 tie with a kill.

Next, the Badgers look to rally versus the Waterloo Warriors on the road on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 8 p.m. Stream the game live on OUA.tv.
