The  No. 6 University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s volleyball team downed the Windsor Lancers 3-2 (25-23, 25-22, 22-25, 22-25, 15-12) on Friday, January 20 at the Toldo Lancer Centre in Windsor, Ont.

TORONTO STATS: Veteran left side Evan Falardeau recorded a game-high 20 points. The Stratford, Ont. native totaled 19 kills, two aces and two assisted blocks.

Fifth-year outside hitter Mitchell Neuert added 15 points through 11 kills, two aces and two assisted blocks. Second-year left side Jayden Talsma tied his points season-high with a 10-point performance.

Rookie setter Michael Hickey recorded a career-high 41 assists in the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

A back-and-forth first set saw the Blues and Lancers trade point after point. However, in the end, it was the Blues who would secure the set 25-23.

The second set was a different story. The Blues offence dominated the Lancers, opening the set with a 5-0 lead. Holding this lead throughout the second, the Blues would take the set 25-20.

However, it was the Lancer who would come out on top through the third and fourth sets taking both sets by a score of 25-22.

Ultimately, the Blues squashed the Lancers comeback hopes taking the fifth set 15-12.

UP NEXT: The Blues return to action tomorrow Saturday, January 22 on the road vs. the Windsor Lancers. First serve is set for 4:00 p.m.
