On Friday, November 22, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues men’s volleyball team hosted the Toronto Metropolitan University Bold at Goldring Centre for a thrilling matchup. The game drew an energetic crowd eager to see these two teams in action.
The Blues showcased dominance from the onset, sweeping the match in three straight sets (26-24, 25-14, 25-21). The game featured moments of momentum shifts, with the Bold pushing hard in the opening set. However, the Blues exceptional offensive efficiency and ability to capitalize on errors propelled them forward. Set two was a commanding performance by the Blues, posting an impressive .536 hitting percentage. The final set saw some resistance from TMU, but the Blues maintained composure to close out the victory.
Individually, the Blues were led by Jayden Talsma, who racked up 17 kills with an outstanding .515 hitting percentage, leading the Blues in kills and points, with 17 apiece. Hunter Arulpragasam followed with 14 kills and three service aces, contributing 18 points in total, including a solo block. Michael Hickey led the playmaking effort, amassing 42 assists, while Iannis Toma added one service ace and eight digs.
TMU struggled to find rhythm throughout the match, finishing with a .213 hitting percentage. Jacob Walker was their standout performer with 12 kills and a .357 hitting efficiency. Lyam Krapp added to their effort with two blocks and five points.
In a decisive display of teamwork and skill, the Varsity Blues secured the sweep, improving to a 4-3 record. The Bold fall to 4-3 on the season. Toronto will aim to repeat this performance when they face TMU Saturday (Nov. 23) afternoon at 2 p.m. at Goldring Centre.
