Women’s Volleyball Secures Road Win Over York

Queen’s Women’s Volleyball took on the York Lions this Friday evening — the Gaels walked away with a four-set win (25-17,20-25, 25-17, 25-19).

The win comes after two back-to-back clean sweep weekends that brought Queen’s to third in the USPORTS women’s volleyball rankings.

In this evening’s match, Hannah Duchesneau (Arts & Science) led the Gaels in points, with 20, and kills, with 18.

“The chemistry is great. It’s fun playing with the girls and with the sisterhood,” Duchesneau commented.

The Gaels maintained a strong presence at the service line with seven service aces as a team — Aimee Lemire (Education) and Duchesneau added two a piece and Christine Abu (Arts & Science) and Kennedy Millin (Education) added one each.

Collectively the team outplayed the Lions on offense and accrued 59 kills with a hit percentage of .328.

“I think that’s the beauty of our team, everyone is hungry. We all want the ball, we all want to win, and we all want to support one another and you couldn’t ask for more of a drive than that from a team,” Duchesneau added.

The second set went point for point, with neither team securing a definitive lead. The Lion’s upped their offense pressure at the net and from the service line and pulled ahead at the 18-point mark, taking the set.

However, the Lion’s were unable to contain the Gaels for another. With an offensive push the Gael’s bagged the next two sets, securing their fifth straight win.

With the win, Women’s Volleyball’s record improves to 8-1, placing them provisionally second in the OUA.
